KOTA BARU: A footballer who was detained last week for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl has been asked to take a 'rest' and should neither be involved in football training sessions nor participate in the Premier League.

The order was issued by the the footballer's club Kelantan United FC.

The club's chief operation officer Wan Mohd Zul Ikman, in a statement, said, the footballer was asked to take a time out until further notice.

"We realise that the issue involving our player has gone viral on social media of late. We put our trust in the authorities to conduct their investigation into the case and will wait for the full report before taking the next course of action," he said.

He also stressed that the club would not tolerate any immoral activities involving its players.

The footballer was detained soon after the 18-year-old victim lodged a report at the Kota Baru police station recently.

In the report, the victim claimed the incident happened when she was throwing rubbish near her home.

The suspect was alleged to have dragged her into the house and raped her. No one was in the house at the time of the incident.

The victim also claimed that she had been 'sexually abused' by the suspect, who was a regular customer at her food stall, by sending her lewd pictures via WhatsApp since she was 17.
