Unemployed man to be charged with causing death of girlfriend

KUALA SELANGOR: An unemployed man will be charged in the Klang court tomorrow with smothering his teenage girlfriend to death with a pillow in Kampung Idaman, Pandamaran, Klang, on June 26.

Selangor police chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said they received instruction from the Deputy Public Prosecutor's office (DPP) for the charge against the 24-year-old suspect.

However, he said the motive behind the incident was still under investigation.

"The suspect who has since been detained by the police is still being held at the Klang lock-up. He will be charged at the Klang court tomorrow.

"We are still investigating and cannot reveal the motive," he said at a Press conference after officiating Selangor Contingent's Taman Angkat Skuad Aman Wanita (Amanita) at Taman Penggawa here today.

Previously, South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner Cha Hoong Fong said police were alerted to the discovery of an unconscious teenage girl in a housing compound around 3.40am on June 26.

"The suspect was believed to have brought the victim to his room at 2am. However, an argument broke out between them, which allegedly caused her death.

"Preliminary investigations showed the suspect had carried the victim out of his room to the porch," he said, adding that the suspect then sought help from his family members.

Cha said scratches and bruises were found on the victim's face and neck. A post-mortem result showed that she died of asphyxiation, believed to have been caused when she was smothered with a pillow.

He said the 16-year-old victim was a student at a school in the Klang Valley.
