Man who allegedly insulted Islam arrested by police

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 39-year-old man in Puchong today for allegedly insulting Islam.

Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner A.A. Anbalagan said the suspect was arrested at a house in Batu 8, Bukit Kuchai, Puchong, at 12.30pm.

"The investigation is being conducted by Federal police Criminal Investigation Department's Classified Crime Investigation Unit. This case has been classified under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act," he said in a statement today.

Videos and pictures of a man with bleeding mouth and nose had been circulating on social media, after he was believed to have been assaulted by a group of people who was angered by his alleged insults in a 35-second video that went viral.

The group had allegedly gone to the man's house where a fight broke out. Anbalagan said police would also investigate the group that allegedly assaulted the man.

"The public are advised not to take matters into their own hands. Let the authorities conduct the investigations," he said.
