TikTokker arrested for allegedly insulting royalty and PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained a TikTokker for allegedly insulting the King, the Regent of Johor, and the prime minister in a video.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the arrest was made after a Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) officer lodged a report on the video.

The video was uploaded by the TikTok account @ryanwong_5845.

Police also seized a smartphone.

"The content of the video contains offensive remarks believed to have been made to offend, demean, and insult the royal institution to incite hatred and provocation," Razarudin said when contacted.

He added that the remarks could threaten public safety and harmony in the country.

"The case is being probed under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for misuse of network facilities.

"Investigations are ongoing, and updates will be provided periodically."
