SUNGAI SIPUT: A 30-year-old mother was charged at the magistrates court here today with murdering her eight-month-old baby boy last week.
T. Rebekal nodded in understanding when the charge was read to her before magistrate, Nurul Asyifa Redzuan.
The mother, who works as a nurse at a private hospital, was accused of murdering J. S Melvin Jeshuran at No A13, Fasa 2A, Kampung Muhibbah in Sungai Siput (north) at 6pm on July 24.
She was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
No plea was recorded.
Deputy public prosecutor S. Vitthiyeswary prosecuted while the accused was represented by lawyer Nahtan Krishnan.
The court set October 3 for mention.
It was reported that the victim was found unconscious and pronounced dead upon arrival at Sungai Siput Hospital.
A post-mortem on the victim's body conducted at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh found injuries on his body believed to have been caused by blunt objects.
Perak police chief Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid had said that the victim was an only child and lived with his divorced mother.
