JOHOR BARU: A couple was charged at the magistrate's court here today with two counts of drug possession and trafficking earlier this month.
On the first charge, Loh Kok Kiong, 49 and Soh Yong Xin, 32, were accused of trafficking 9.625 kilogrammes (kg) of methamphetamine at Blok F-21-10, Ataraxia 2, Jalan Forest City 15, Forest City in Gelang Patah here, at 11.15am on Aug 9.
They were charged under Section 39B(1)(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952 and can be sentenced to death or life imprisonment with a minimum of 15 strokes of the rotan upon conviction.
The couple nodded their understanding after the charge was read in Mandarin before magistrate Mohd Zulhilmi Ibrahim but no plea was recorded.
On the second charge, they pleaded not guilty to possessing 666 grammes (g) of ketamine at the same place, time and date.
They were charged under Section 12(2) of the DDA 1952 and can be fined RM100,000 or a maximum of five years jail or both upon conviction.
At the same court, Loh was also charged with four other counts of trafficking, possessing and consuming drugs on the same date.
The Singaporean nodded his understanding when he was charged with two counts of trafficking 1.505kg of methamphetamine and 139g of nimetazepam at B-21-12, Residensi Lapan, Jalan Sutera Kuning in Taman Sutera here at 1.30pm on Aug 9.
Loh was also accused of possessing 100g of ketamine at the car park in front of Block F of the same Forest City apartment building at 11.15am.
For the last offence, Loh pleaded not guilty to a charge of consuming methamphetamine at 10.30pm at the office of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Danial Munir did not offer any bail for the two accused, who were unrepresented,
Zulhilmi set Sept 20 for mention pending the chemistry and pathology reports.
