KUALA LUMPUR: Local actor Zul Ariffin has advised the public to learn from what happened to him and to be more careful.
This was after the 36-year-old, who is also a model, pleaded guilty to one count of uploading a brief clip containing lewd contents at the Sepang Sessions Court earlier this morning.
He was fined RM30,000 for the offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.
The brief clip, which was a promotional video for a local drama series, was uploaded on his social media page in March this year.
The clip drew flak from netizens who claimed that it was obscene, culturally insensitive, and went against social norms.
He told reporters after today's court proceedings that he had learnt from his mistake.
"I don't want to waste the court's time or anybody's time, so yes, I pleaded guilty for posting (the clip).
"There are consequences to whatever we do. As an actor, a celebrity, this is normal.
"Rather than denying, I admit that I'm guilty," he said.
"We all make mistakes, you know. Take this as a lesson, at least. To the people and other actors out there.
"If we're asked to post (anything), don't be too obedient. Be careful. Take my incident as an example.
"But posting your own selfies is okay, it's harmless.. tak rugi apa pun (nothing to lose)," he said.
He also said that he was relieved and grateful for his lawyers who had given legal advice, adding that he was touched by his friends who supported him.
When asked on his next course of action, he said: "Apa lagi.. balik makan lah! Lapar ni! (What else.. I am famished, I want to go home and eat," he said drawing light laughter from those present.
