JEMPOL: A thief broke into a house but dozed off in the living room after he drank alcohol on the job here, yesterday.
The 41-year-old suspect was arrested after the house owner, upon waking up at 6.15am, saw the sleeping thief and alerted the police.
The suspect had earlier broken into the house through the unlocked back door. After taking several items, he stumbled upon an alcohol drink and started drinking before he passed out in the living room.
Jempol district police chief Superintendent Hoo Chang Hook said the house owner was horrified to find the sleeping thief.
"The house owner also found a paper bag containing two knives, a screwdriver, two bottles of alcohol and a tablet next to the suspect.
"The house owner alerted the police to pick up the suspect," he said in a statement today.
Checks showed the suspect has multiple criminal records, including 15 drug-related and six criminal offences.
He added that the house owner was staying with his wife and four children.
"The suspect has been remanded for four days under Section 457 of the Penal Code for breaking into a house to commit burglary," he said.
Hoo advised all house onwers to ensure all doors to their houses are locked to not give any opportunity for criminal to break into their homes.
