PUTRAJAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has given his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here yesterday to facilitate an investigation into the party's funds.
A source from the agency said the former prime minister had his statement recorded at its headquarters over the alleged RM300 million in political funds in its two accounts.
"We have also recorded other party leaders' statements as part of the investigation process and will most likely have the full findings ready in a week or two," he said, adding that the report would then be handed over to the Attorney-General's Chambers.
He said MACC had opened several investigation papers. Some were brought to court, while others are with the AGC. The source said the investigation into the RM300 million fund in the party's account was at the final stage.
"Once completed, it will also be handed over to the AGC for their instructions, whether or not to charge (the relevant parties in court)," he said.
MACC on Tuesday confirmed that Muhyiddin would be called in to facilitate an ongoing investigation into Bersatu's financial records. He was summoned to explain the RM300 million which the party was said to have received as political funds from contractors who were awarded projects during his tenure as prime minister.
It was reported that two bank accounts belonging to Bersatu, with a total balance of RM40 million, have so far been frozen. It was reported that the contractors were identified following the anti-graft agency's investigation into several accounts belonging to Bersatu that were frozen at the end of last month.
It was reported that the party had received up to RM300 million from these contractors as political funding following "an agreement" they made with some of the party members, including those serving under Muhyiddin's administration at the time.
