[Updated] Datuk Roy has surrendered to MACC

KUALA LUMPUR: A key mastermind who went around saying he could settle cases related to the Jana Wibawa corruption scandal, known as "Datuk Roy", has surrendered himself to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed this in a short written reply to the New Straits Times.

"Yes. He had surrendered to the KL MACC," he said .

An MACC source had confirmed that "Datuk Roy", who is in his 50s, had surrendered at about 3 pm after he came to the KL MACC office have his statement taken.

The source said the suspect will be taken to the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate Court at 9 am tomorrow to be remanded.

KL MACC director Razaliah Ab Rahman, when contacted, said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009.

Yesterday, it was reported that MACC was tracking down Datuk Roy, who had previously been accused of corruption in court and was sentenced to prison.

On March 9, the MACC arrested four individuals, including a MACC officer and a woman, aged between 40 and 50, for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes worth RM400,000 to halt an investigation into the Jana Wibawa case.

The woman has been released on MACC bail, while the other three suspects remained in custody until March 13, 2023
