TAWAU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has obtained a remand order against another Immigration Department to assist investigations into the smuggling of Filipino immigrants into Peninsular Malaysia through Tawau Airport.
The remand order was granted by Tawau High Court Deputy Registrar Suhailla Selag.
The 30-year-old officer who had been station at the airport has been remanded for six days till April 3.
This makes six the number of Immigration officers detained by MACC over the issue since the operation against them began on Thursday. He was arrested yesterday about 1.30pm.
The Immigration officers are believed to have been linked to a syndicate that has been actively smuggling groups of undocumented foreign workers by commercial flight from Tawau to Terminal 2, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), since 2018.
Last Friday, nine individuals, including five officers, were remanded for six days until tomorrow to assist investigations into the smuggling of undocumented foreign workers.
Those officers, aged between 30 and 41 and comprising three men and two women, are also based at Tawau Airport.
They were all arrested in an operation codenamed Op Lancar by the MACC.
Four other civilians, who are suspected to be agents, were arrested at KLIA and around the Tawau area between 3pm and 5pm on the same day.
