ALOR STAR: Kuala Kedah marine police seized 2,000 litres of diesel worth RM4,300 in a raid conducted at a petrol station in Jalan Langgar, here, yesterday.
Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry Kedah branch director Affendi Rajini Kanth said the 11am raid led to the discovery of diesel stored in an extra tank on a lorry.
"Further inspection found that the lorry had a modified tank suspected of being used for the misappropriation of diesel. The authorities then seized an estimated 2,000 litres of diesel found in the additional tank," he said in a statement today.
Affendi said Kuala Kedah marine police had handed the case over to the ministry's Kedah office.
He said the 52-year-old lorry driver was also detained for further investigation.
He added that the lorry with a local registration number was also impounded for further investigation.
"The ministry would like to stress that it will not compromise with any party found to be involved in syndicates and activities of misappropriation of these controlled goods," he said. — BERNAMA
