KUALA LUMPUR: A 23-year-old foreigner was arrested for allegedly groping an elderly woman in Taman Muda, Ampang on Wednesday.
A video of suspect, groping the thigh of the 71-year-old victim, has since gone viral on social media.
Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said in the 3.30pm incident at Jalan Bunga Tanjung, the suspect, a UNHCR cardholder, was seen approaching the elderly woman before touching her thigh.
"The victim told off the suspect, who appered to be under the influence of drugs, but he proceeded to take off his pants and shirt before flashing his private parts at the woman.
"He then hugged the victim from behind leading her to scream and cried for help. Several passers-by managed to apprehend the suspect." he said.
Mohd Azam added that police rushed to the area after they were informed of the incident and detained the suspect.
"Initial investigation revealed that the suspect, who has two previous records related to drugs, tested positive for ketamine.
"He is currently under remand until tomorrow," he said.
Mohd Azam said the case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force on a person with intent to outrage modesty.
