KUANTAN: The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department has lodged a police report against forged official letters that bear the signature of its director to supply furniture for the department's hostel here.
The letters which contained the signature of the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Dr Wan Mohammad Zaidi Wan Isa and the national emblem - the Malaysian coat of arms - was purportedly to supply double-decker beds and mattresses for the department's hostel in Kuantan.
The department's public relations office, in a statement, said it has never issued such letters to supply furniture for the department's hostel.
"The department has received complaints in connection with the viral letter allegedly to supply the double-decker beds and mattresses which were distributed to furniture suppliers here since yesterday.
"The letter is fake and those who were affected are advised to lodge a police report for further action.
The Fire and Rescue department through its representative has lodged a police report regarding the forged letters which could confuse the affected quarters and result in losses to them.
"We advise the public to be careful with the latest modus operandi deployed by scammers who misuse the names of government agencies to dupe and trick others," read the statement.
Both letters, dated Aug 6, were addressed to furniture suppliers in the state capital and contained details of the beds and mattresses that they were supposed to supply.
