KUALA LUMPUR: Firefighters took approximately three hours to extinguish a fire at the Plaza Perabot LDP furniture shop on Jalan SS8/7, Petaling Jaya, near here, last night.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Razali Wan Ismail said it received a distress call at 10.46pm, with the first fire engine arriving at the scene four minutes later.
He said the team took some time to extinguish the fire as it involved a two-storey premises covering a huge area of about 20,000sqft (1,858.06sqm).
The operation involved six nearby fire stations, namely, Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Penchala, Puchong, Subang Jaya, and Serdang Fire and Rescue stations.
"The fire was brought under control by around 11.30pm, and fully extinguished within three hours," he said.
However, Wan Razali said efforts to extinguish the remnants of the fire and restoration work continued until this morning.
"The fire caused almost total destruction to the furniture shop, with 90 per cent damage, and for now, we have yet to determine the number of shops involved.
"There were no casualties reported, and the Fire Forensic Unit is still investigating the scene to determine the cause of the fire," he said.
