KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has apprehended an enforcement officer for accepting a RM3,000 bribe in exchange for releasing goods that belonged to a foreigner recently.
The suspect, a man in his 40s, along with an accomplice who is currently evading authorities, initially detained a Bangladeshi citizen in June within Kuala Lumpur due to an expired work permit violation.
Subsequently, they demanded around RM3,000 in cash from the Bangladeshi individual in return for returning two mobile phones and jewellery that belonged to him, according to an insider source.
The arrest took place at approximately 5pm when the suspect was called in to provide his statements, the source revealed.
Kuala Lumpur MACC director, Mohamad Fauzi Husin, verified the arrest and specified that the suspect is under investigation according to Section 17(a) of the MACC Act.
"He will be presented before the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate Court for a remand hearing tomorrow," he stated.
