BALING: A 71-year-old senior citizen was found with his hands and legs tied and his neck strangled in a house at Taman Desa Bidara in Kuala Ketil here last night.
Baling district police chief Superintendent Shamsudin Mamat said that police received a call from the public regarding the discovery of the unconscious individual.
He said that based on initial investigations at the scene, which is a single storey terrace house, there was no sign of forced entry.
"The victim was found on the bed in the master bedroom. The house does not have Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTVs).
"CCTV footage from a neighbor's house reveals two unidentified male suspects riding a dark-coloured Yamaha Y15 motorbike, who are believed to have fled the victim's house," he said in a statement yesterday.
Shamsudin said the deceased lived alone in the house after the death of his wife about eight years ago.
He said a few of the victim's belongings, including a gold chain, a ring, and a pocketbook, were missing.
"Initial investigations indicate that the victim may have been robbed but investigations are still ongoing.
"The victim's remains have been sent to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Star for post-mortem to determine the cause of death," he said.
Samsudin said that investigations were being carried out under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
"Members of the public who have any information that can aid in investigations are urged to come forward and contact the Baling district police headquarters at 04-4708222 or the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Tan See Yean at 019-6687687 or any nearby police station," he said.
