Veterinarian admits guilt, fined RM30,000 for corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: A 44-year-old veterinarian faced a penalty of RM30,000 after admitting to leveraging her official position for corrupt practices favouring her husband.

The illicit gains in question amounted to RM58,617 and transpired between August 2019 and June 2020.

The veterinarian, employed at the Selangor Veterinarian Department with a classification of Gred GV44, willingly entered her plea before the Shah Alam Sessions Court today.

Her transgressions revolved around the improper endorsement of three contracts worth RM58,617 for her husband's business due to their familial ties.

These actions were in direct violation of Section 23 (1) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

Acknowledging her wrongdoing, the veterinarian submitted a guilty plea in the Sessions Court.

She confessed to the charges and was fined RM30,000 or six-month imprisonment should she fail to pay the fine.
