Kuala Lumpur: Actress Amelia Henderson has succeeded in her appeal at the High Court, here, today to set aside a compensation payment of over RM200,000 to the production company A. Aida Production Sdn Bhd for breach of contract of a TV drama production last year.
Judicial commissioner Leong Wai Hong ruled in favour of Amelia, the applicant, after examining all the appeal records thoroughly and both parties' arguments.
However, the court ordered Amelia to pay a nominal compensation of RM10,000 within 14 days and a five per cent interest to the production company starting from today.
In the online proceedings, Amelia was represented by lawyer Mansheel Kaur, while lawyer Ashmadi Othman represented the production company as the respondent.
Previously, Amelia, whose real name is Amelia Thripura Henderson, 28, filed an appeal regarding the decision of the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur that required her to pay over RM200,000 in compensation to A. Aida Production Sdn Bhd on April 18.
On April 7, Amelia was ordered to pay over RM200,000 in compensation to the renowned director's production company.
Judge Zulqarnain Hassan ruled in favour of the production company as the plaintiff, accepting their claim against Amelia as the defendant.
The judgement in the Sessions Court stated that the court found Amelia bound by the contract signed for the TV drama "Sekali Lagi Cinta Kembali."
For the record, during the trial that began on Nov 1 last year, three witnesses from the plaintiff, including A. Aida, whose real name is Datuk Zaidah Awang, 53, and three witnesses from the defendant, including Amelia herself, were present to provide testimony.
While Amelia, maintained her position of denying any contract violation when she accepted the offer and starred in the said TV drama.
