Appeal to be made over Harakah printing debt

KOTA BARU: Pas has no intention to avoid paying up its outstanding debts with party mouthpiece Harakah's former printers following the recent court verdict.

Pas Information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, who is Harakah new chief executive officer said the party is now considering to file an appeal following the court decision.

He also said Pas has left the matter to the party's lawyers to take action.

"We (Pas) respected the court's decision and are considering filing an appeal," he told New Straits Times.

Ahmad Fadhli was commenting on a news portal report today urging Pas to pay up its outstanding debts with the former printers in line with a recent court verdict on the matter.

NAJ Press Resources (M) Sdn Bhd manager Hussin Jan said that the company's founder Azlan Jan is in critical condition in a hospital, and as such, the funds would come in handy.

On Dec 5, Kuala Lumpur Sessions court allowed a printer's bid for a summary judgement against Pas and its mouthpiece, Harakah, to recover RM656,233.69 in unpaid printing fees.

Judge Lailatul Zuraida Harron @ Harun entered a summary judgement against the party and Harakah after finding that they had previously acknowledged the sum owed through their correspondence.

"The court considered this as clear admission by the defendants (PAS and Harakah) regarding their debt to the plaintiff (NAJ Press Resources Sdn Bhd), and it should bind them accordingly," she said.

She noted that part payment of the total sum owed was made on Oct 31, 2017.

However, there was a balance of RM656,233.69.

"The court believes that the defence raised is merely a bare denial, and the facts (raised) about another printing company not relevant to this claim are irrelevant and an attempt to mislead the court," Lailatul said.

It was reported in 2019 that NAJ Press Resources issued a letter to Pas and Harakah demanding them to pay RM3,053,204.59 in printing fees.

Efforts to get comment from Harakah chairman Datuk Seri Idris Ahmad failed as he did not answer calls.
