Man shot dead in Puchong was on police's wanted list [NSTTV]

SUBANG JAYA: The man who died in a shootout with the police in Taman Puchong Prima today was a wanted criminal with a lengthy criminal record.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the man, a Malaysian, has seven prior criminal offences and six narcotics offences on his criminal record.

He said the suspect died after an exchange of gunfire with the police in front of the Sri Acasia Apartments at 3.50pm today.

"Investigations by the Subang Jaya district police's Criminal Investigation Department are still underway.

"We have also been alerted to a video of the incident circulating on social media. We advise the people not to share the video as it could lead to unrest among the public," he said.

Hussein said anyone with information related to the case can contact the Subang Jaya district police at 03-78627222.

The New Straits Times had earlier today reported that the incident took place when police came upon a Toyota Camry driven by the suspect.

It is understood that police repeatedly ordered the man to stop the car but he refused.

The suspect instead brandished a gun and began opening fire at the policemen.

A shootout then ensued, which ended with the man dead inside the car.

A 39-second video clip of the incident has since gone viral on social media.
