SERI ISKANDAR: A 42-year-old policeman with the rank of sergeant is being investigated for allegedly raping a 16-year-old student between September and October last year.
A source said the crime was allegedly committed in front of a police station and the parking lot of a supermarket in the Perak Tengah district during that span of time.
The case came to light after the victim told her mother about what happened recently.
The source also said that the victim, who was accompanied by a family member has had her statement recorded at the Perak Tengah district police headquarters under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
"The suspect's identity was determined based on the telephone number which appeared on the victim's phone. Police seized two handphones belonging to the victim and suspect, respectively." said the source.
Perak Tengah police chief Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah, when contacted, confirmed that the case was investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
No arrests were made as of last night.
"The police will wait for a medical report from the hospital. Initial examinations by the hospital showed that the victim did not sustain any external injury," he said last night.
