KOTA BARU: The State Immigration Department has detained 15 undocumented migrants during its operation conducted in three districts yesterday.
Kelantan Immigration Director Mohd Faizal Shamsudin stated that the operation took place in Bachok, Pasir Mas, and Kota Baru areas.
He said the operation began at about 10pm on Tuesday night and concluded at 8am the following day.
"The operation was initiated based on public tip-offs, and the 15 foreigners, consisting of 13 individuals from Bangladesh and two from Pakistan, were apprehended.
"They consist of 14 men and one woman, all of whom were arrested on suspicion of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said in a press release.
He added that the 15 had been transferred to the department's detention center in Tanah Merah for further action.
Mohd Faizal said the department will continue to conduct similar operations periodically to apprehend illegal immigrants.
It has been reported that several 'hotspots', such as mini Dhaka in a few districts, which are used by foreigners as their meeting points, have been identified by enforcement agencies in Kelantan.
