KUALA LUMPUR: The police have completed their probe into the sale of socks bearing the word "Allah" involving KK Supermart and the sock's distributor, Xin Jiang Chang Sdn Bhd.
Federal Police Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said they were now waiting for a directive from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) on the next course of action.
He said four separate investigation papers on the issue have been submitted to the AGC.
This includes probes into the sale of the socks and comments made by social media users on the issue.
The only investigation paper that the AGC has yet to give a directive on is regarding the sale of the socks.
"We will provide an update if AGC has given a directive," he said in a press conference at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
He said in total, the police have received 143 reports on the issue and confiscated 14 pairs of socks.
"We have also recorded statements from 174 people which also involve KK Mart management and staff, and truck drivers among others.
"The factory ordered 18,000 pairs of socks in February and distributed in March. Of the total, 14 pairs were identified on March 13."
Previously, photos of the socks being sold at a KK Supermart in Bandar Sunway went viral, drawing criticism and calls for the store to be boycotted.
The convenience chain's founder has issued an apology over the matter.
Meanwhile, Shuhaily advised the public against taking matters into their hands.
He warned that stern action would be taken against vigilantism.
Previously, a video clip of several men confronting a KK Supermart staff over the issue went viral.
