Cops record statements in probe into baby girl's drowning

BACHOK: Police have recorded statements from several people to assist their investigation into a drowning case involving a baby girl here on Friday.

Bachok police chief Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin said the individuals included parents of the 12-year-old boy riding the three-wheeled motorcycle involved in the incident and the toddler's parents

He said police had also recorded statements from the boy and the owner of the motorcycle.

"We plan to record statements from the boy's parents and the toddler's parents today."

A joyride by seven children on a three-wheeled motorcycle ended in tragedy when one of them, a 13-month-old toddler, drowned when the bike fell into an irrigation canal here on Friday.

The incident took place in Kampung Tok Belian near Pengkalan Petah at 7.20pm, The seven were returning to the boy's home when the incident happened.

They were passing a bridge when the rider lost control of the bike and fell into the 4m-deep canal.

Police said the motorcycle's road tax had expired.
