'I still love my wife', says KLIA shooter [NSTTV]

KOTA BARU: The suspected gunman in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) shooting who arrived at the Kota Baru Magistrate's Court this morning said he "still loves his wife".

The 38-year-old man made these remarks as he entered the court for a remand extension application at 8.35am.

Greeting reporters who were present, Hafizul Hawari repeatedly professed his love for his wife.

"Assalamualaikum, I still love my wife, Farah Md Isa... thank you," he said.

Hafizul has been on remand for the last seven days from April 16, which ends today.

The remand extension is to assist in investigations under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.

It was reported previously that Hafizul's wife, Farah Md Isa, was his intended victim in the airport shooting.

Yesterday, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar said police would seek a seven-day extension of the man's remand order.

Hussein also revealed that the suspect underwent a medical check-up at a private hospital in Kelantan a week before the incident as he planned to work in Saudi Arabia.

He was arrested while collecting his results at the hospital earlier last week.
