KUALA LUMPUR: Police today confirmed to have received information on the acid attack on national footballer Faisal Halim.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar, in a statement, said the attack occurred at a major shopping mall in Kota Damansara today.
"The Petaling Jaya police were alerted to the incident by members of the public via Malaysia Emergency Response Services (MERS) 999, that a national football player had been splashed with a liquid, believed to be acid.
"The football player is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Petaling Jaya, and his condition is reported as stable," he said.
Hussein urged anyone with information on the case to contact the Petaling Jaya district police operation room at 03-7966 2222.
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, in a post on X, condemned the attack on Faisal and any other athletes.
"No violence in sports. I hope the police will investigate the case immediately," Yeoh said.
Earlier reports indicated that Faisal had suffered an acid attack. Photos of the winger after the attack have gone viral.
