KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested four men for trespassing the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN) National Hydrographic Centre in Port Klang at 8pm on Sunday.
Klang Selatan district police chief Assistant Superintendent Cha Hoong Fong said in a statement that the police were notified by an officer at the base informing them about the arrest of four men who trespassed at the main gate of the centre.
"Police then directed nearby patrolmen for further action."
Chad said the investigation revealed that RMN personnel on duty at the entrance of the National Hydrographic Centre noticed four men believed to be foreigners loitering on the road in front of the entrance.
"Shortly after, the four men walked to the end of the entrance and pretended to take photos. The four men were immediately detained by RMN personnel, who then notified the police for arrest and further investigation.
"Policemen who arrived at the scene arrested the four foreign men, aged between 21 and 36 years old, seized the suspects' mobile phones and ran a background check on the suspects where they were found to not have any prior criminal records."
The district police headquarters Criminal Investigation Department (CID) opened an investigation paper under Section 447 of the Penal Code for the offence of criminal trespass.
The offence carries a penalty of up to six months imprisonment, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both.
"Police are also investigating the individuals under the Immigration Act 1959/63 to verify the authenticity of the passports, permits, and entry-exit movements into Malaysia.
Cha also said the Klang magistrate's court has approved a three-day remand order until today for all suspects.
"The investigating officer is in the process of completing the investigation paper and will refer it to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions soon."
