PETALING JAYA: The parents of six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, who was tragically murdered, appeared at the court complex today following the expiration of their seven-day remand order, which began on June 1.
Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, 28, Zayn's father, entered the magistrate's courtroom in handcuffs, visibly distressed and crying. He vehemently declared, "I am being wronged! This is all slander!"
In support, a group believed to be the couple's family members responded, "Yes, do not be a scapegoat. Be strong, Zaim and Isma," addressing Zayn's mother, Ismanira Abdul Manaf.
The police are seeking an extension of the remand for both parents, aged 28, as they continue to investigate the murder of Zayn, whose body was discovered near a stream by Apartment Idaman in Damansara Damai on Dec 6 last year.
The couple will appear before magistrate Ainaa Muhamad Kamal, who initially approved the one-week remand.
Former deputy public prosecutor Fahmi Abd Moin will represent them during the proceedings.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan announced yesterday that the authorities would request a remand extension to further investigate the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
