KAJANG: The burglars who broke into the house of Selangor FC defender Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee in Shah Alam last month were also targeting other houses in the neighborhood, Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said.
Hussein said the police believed that Ahmad Khuzaimi's home became the target because there was no one at home at the time.
"This house was not targeted because its owner is a football player... It was coincidental. It has nothing to do with the homeowner being a football player.
"The suspects felt that other houses they attempted were at higher risk, so they went to the football player's house.
"When they found no one at home, they broke into that house," he told reporters here today.
Hussein said the police are still tracking the two suspects as closed-circuit television footage revealed that the vehicle used in the crime had a false registration.
"We have identified the real owner of the number plate used on the vehicle after confirming that the number was indeed fake."
Khuzaimi's house was broken into on May 22 while he was away for training at the SelangorFC Training Centre.
The Selangor FC footballer lost a motorcycle, four branded bags, and his international passport.
