Remand against ex-convict involved in Kuantan carjacking extended

KUANTAN: The remand order against a 40-year-old suspect involved in the carjacking at a petrol station in Jalan Semambu here on June 3 has been extended for another three days.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu said the remand order had been extended until Friday.

"The suspect was given a four-day remand on June 8 (Saturday) and police today obtained further extension till Friday. He is investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft," he said in a text message.

The suspect was detained by police while sleeping in a house at Kampung Chinta Manis in Bentong on June 5.

In the incident on Jun 3, the suspect rode a stolen motorcycle to the petrol station before jumping into a car with a senior citizen inside and speeding off from the location.

He later left his "hostage" at the roadside after facing resistance and continued driving to Bentong, where he broke into a house and locked a family in a room before going to sleep.

A family member managed to free himself and sought help, resulting in the police coming to the house and arresting the suspect.
