KOTA TINGGI: Two men in their 30s were arrested and remanded after police seized air pistols and RM6,630 worth of ketum leaves and liquid during a raid here yesterday.
During a thorough search of the premises following the 9.30pm raid, police discovered two air pump shotguns, 62 ammunition pellets, 133 clear plastic bags containing ketum juice, and 225 clear plastic bags filled with ketum leaves.
District police chief Superintendent Hussin Zamora said equipment used to process the ketum into contraband was also seized.
The contraband and equipment, including the firearms, are estimated to be worth about RM7,000.
He added that both men were arrested; one was remanded for four days, while the other was released on police bail after his statement was recorded.
Hussin said that the case is being investigated under Section 8(A) and Section 36 of the Firearms Act 1960 for illegal possession of firearms.
The suspect, he added, could also face charges for possession, manufacturing, storing, transporting, and sale of ketum under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act.
Upon conviction, this could result in a five-year jail term, a fine of up to RM100,000, or both, for the suspect.
