BUKIT MERTAJAM: The two women whose bodies were discovered inside a car parked near a residential area in Taman Tembikai here yesterday were reported missing by their families on Friday.
Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris said both the deceased, aged 25 and 30, were best friends.
"Both the deceased were best friends, who were reported missing by their families on July 5.
"They were found lying inside the car dead. Checks in the surrounding area did not lead to the discovery of any weapons or other items which can suggest criminal elements," he said today.
Both the bodies have been taken to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Helmi added that both women died as a result of inhaling helium gas.
Earlier today, the New Straits Times reported that police were investigating the death of the two women as sudden death report (SDR).
State police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad had said this was pending the victims' post-mortem examinations.
Hamzah urged those with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
It was reported that the bodies of the two women in the locked Honda WRV were noticed by a passer-by at 5.30pm.
The two women had likely been dead for over five days, as their bodies were bloated and emitted a strong odour.
One of the victims is believed to be from Negri Sembilan, although their identities have not yet been confirmed.
