Couple arrested after boy spent days sleeping in corridor

SERI ALAM: Police have arrested the parents of a 13-year-old boy who was allegedly forced to sleep in the corridors for four days after being locked out of their flat in Pasir Gudang here.

District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak confirmed that the couple, aged 54 and 56, were arrested at 11.30pm yesterday to assist with the investigation into the case.

Preliminary investigations, Sohaimi said, showed that the boy was forced to sleep in the corridor for four days before police rescued him.

"Checks showed that the boy's father has two previous criminal records. However, the couple tested negative for drug abuse," he said.

Sohaimi added that the boy's parents have been remanded until July 14 to facilitate the investigation into the case under the Child Act 2001 for abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exposing a child to physical or emotional injury.

The boy's predicament came to light when footage and pictures of him sleeping in the corridor were posted on the 'Komuniti Taman Air Biru' Facebook page. The post has since been removed.

It is understood that the boy underwent a medical check-up at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru near here.

At press time, it has yet to be determined if the boy was physically abused.
