SERDANG: A driver and a restaurant waiter were arrested last week for their alleged involvement in a ganja distribution ring.
Police also seized 51 compressed bricks of drugs worth RM168,020 when they arrested suspects, who are believed to be supplying and delivering the drugs to buyers in the Klang Valley and several areas in Penang.
Serdang police chief Assistant Commissioner A. A. Anbalagan said a team from the Selangor Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) arrested the two men aged 25 and 30 and seized 54.21kg of the drugs following a raid in Bandar Kinrara.
"The two suspects were in the process of a drug deal by the side of the road when they were arrested at around 10.15pm on July 10.
"We checked the Perodua Bezza and found the drugs there," he told reporters at the Serdang police headquarters here today.
He said checks revealed the 30-year-old suspect, who worked as a driver, acted as the supplier while the younger suspect who worked as a waiter was the runner.
"The younger suspect has seven prior records for drug offences and tested positive for methamphetamines and amphetamines.
"Our investigations revealed that the runner received RM500 for each trip he made to deliver the drugs," he said, adding that both suspects who were initially remanded for a week, will be remanded for another five days to help with further investigations.
Anbalagan said the drugs were believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country.
