Man given DNAA after pleading guilty to assaulting wife with mop, baseball bat

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) by the court today on a charge of assaulting his wife in May.

Sessions Court judge Dr Azrol Abdullah made the ruling after deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Muhairi Mohamed Noh applied for the DNAA order against the accused, Inderjit Singh, 45.

"Today is set for mention of facts and sentencing, but there has been a new development in this case.

"So the prosecution asks for this case to be given the DNAA pending further instructions."

A DNAA order means an accused is discharged from the charges without being acquitted of them.

On June 11, Inderjit pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife, Sukhvinder Kaur, with a mop handle, a baseball bat and throwing a plastic chair at her in May.

He committed the offence at 3pm at a condominium unit in Taman Rainbow, Jalan Ipoh, on May 5.

He was charged under Sections 324/326A of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, or a fine or caning, or any two of those punishments, upon conviction.
