IPOH: Police seized 10 packets of suspected methamphetamine from a fibreglass boat at Sungai Tiang Jetty in Rungkup, Bagan Datuk.
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said that acting on a tip-off, a team from Penang Marine Police Region 1 arrested two Indonesian men near the jetty on Monday.
Azizi said police searched the boat and found 10 packets of drugs with combined weight 10.6kg, worth RM340,000.
"Initial investigations indicate that the duo used the jetty as a transit point before transporting the drugs to a neighbouring country.
"Based on our investigation, this drug trafficking syndicate has been active since early this year.
"The drugs are intended for the international market," he told reporters at Perak police headquarters here today.
He added that the duo, aged 42 and 46, have been remanded until July 22.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Azizi urged the public to report any drug-related activities in their areas to help keep the state free from drugs.
He added that up to July 17 this year, state police had arrested 11,562 people for drug offences, and 384 of them had been charged in the court.
"During this period, state police also seized 67.4kg of syabu, 1.56kg of Ketamine, 0.59kg of ecstasy pills, 0.59kg of Yaba pills, 1.37kg Eramin-5 pills and 19.38 litres of caffeine.
"For traditional drugs, state police confiscated 5.07kg of ganja and 62.4kg of heroine."
The combined worth of all the drugs was RM5.22 million, he said.
