IPOH: Police confirmed that two of its officers have been suspended for allegedly being involved in the processing and abuse of ketum, as well as other drug-related offences.
Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the suspension of the 41-year-old corporal and the 39-year-old support corporal took effect yesterday (Sept 18) after they were caught red-handed in a raid in Tanjung Rambutan last Friday.
"The remand period ends tomorrow (Sept 19). If further investigation is needed, we will request an extension or proceed with charges if the investigation is complete," he said yesterday.
He was speaking to reporters after attending a ceremony honouring 186 retired and soon-to-retire police officers from the Perak Contingent for 2024 at the Dewan Bankuet, Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan here today.
He added that the investigation is being carried out under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 30(3) of the Poison Act 1952.
Earlier, it had gone viral on Telegram that seven low-ranking policemen were arrested by the Bukit Aman Intelligence and Operations Division of the Integrity and Standard Compliance Department at a house in Tanjung Rambutan.
The raid, conducted at 10.48am on Sept 13, revealed that the arrested policemen were involved in processing and selling ketum juice, as well as engaging in untaxed cigarette trade.
Some of those arrested were also suspected of involvement in online gambling activities.
