GEORGE TOWN: A 30-year-old man was apprehended along Jalan Batu Ferringhi yesterday (July 20) after being caught driving dangerously and recklessly, resulting in an accident with several cars.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said a search of the suspect's car led to the discovery of ganja and syabu inside his sling bag.
He said the police came across multiple video clips on social media yesterday of a blue Perodua Myvi being driven dangerously along Jalan Batu Ferringhi, heading towards Teluk Bahang, which caused a multi-car collision.
Efforts by both police and the public to stop the Perodua Myvi were unsuccessful.
"At 6.40pm, we detained the suspect and found drugs in his sling bag. Records show the suspect has a criminal record, including two drug-related offences.
"Initial urine tests returned positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine," he said today.
The case is being probed under Sections 12(3), 6, and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Razlam said the police were also investigating the incident under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act and Sections 186 and 427 of the Penal Code.
"The suspect has been remanded for further investigation. We thank the public for assisting in apprehending the suspect," he added.
