Pakistanis plan to evade Immigration by renting luxury home fails

BUTTERWORTH: A group of Pakistani citizens' action to rent a luxurious house to evade detection by authorities failed when the residence was raided in an operation here on Tuesday.

The state Immigration Department, in a statement, said the four men, aged between 30 and 45, were arrested for overstaying and failure to possess valid travel documents.

"Further investigation revealed they rented the house for RM1,200 per month, assuming enforcement actions would only be conducted in regular residential areas and kongsi.

"The immigration authorities will conduct further investigations into the house owner and take appropriate actions according to regulations," it said.

Meanwhile, in the same statement, the state Immigration Department said it detained six Myanmar citizens, aged 25 to 35, who were restaurant workers in Paya Terubong here. They were found without valid passes.

"During the inspection, there was an attempt to escape, but the readiness of the team successfully apprehended the foreign nationals.

"All detainees were taken to the immigration depot for further action," it said.
