'I couldn't bring myself to look at the body'

KUALA LUMPUR: A teenager who fell to his death from the ninth floor of the Seri Semarak People's Housing Project (PPR) in Setapak yesterday has been described as diligent.

A member of the Seri Semarak PPR Residents Association, Azmi Abdul Aziz, 60, said he knew the 17-year-old victim for over six years and the latter had also been friends with Azmi's 16-year-old son.

"I rushed to the scene after being informed by residents that someone had fallen from Block C around 11am.

"Initially, I thought it was an adult who had died because of the appearance of the person, and I couldn't bring myself to look at the body at that time.

"After about two hours, a resident revealed the identity of the deceased, and I was stunned and shocked," he told Harian Metro.

Azmi said he and the teenager were frequently involved in various community programmes, particularly those targeting teenagers in the PPR area.

He also described the teenager as well-behaved person who never caused trouble while living with his grandmother.

The teenager would often greet Azmi politely with the nickname 'Acik Mi.'

He said the deceased and his friends were often seen gathering around the PPR, with their last interaction occurring about four or five days ago.

"I am unsure about the teenager's home situation, but I believe he lived with his grandmother. Although I knew the victim, I do not know his parents."

Earlier reports indicate that a 17-year-old teenager died yesterday after reportedly falling from the ninth floor of a high rise residence in Setapak.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Lazim Ismail said the teenager, known to be a psychiatric patient undergoing hospital treatment, was pronounced dead by medical personnel who attended the scene.

The case is currently being classified as a sudden death, with the teenager's remains sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
