4WD driver in deadly Raub crash remanded for four days

RAUB: Police obtained a four-day remand order against the driver of a four-wheel drive vehicle, who allegedly ran a red light before being involved in a crash leading to a couple's death yesterday.

Raub police chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said the 40-year-old sustained light injuries to his left eye and chest during the incident at Km350 of Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Kota Baru.

"The suspect was travelling alone during the accident and he has been remanded for four days to assist investigations. He is probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving," he said in a text message to the media.

In the 10.20pm accident yesterday, school security guard Muhamad Anasar Kamarozaman, 34, and his wife Zalina Ali, 40, died on the spot while their two daughters, who were in the rear seat, were taken to Raub Hospital.

Meanwhile, Shahril said the couple's two daughters were aged 15 and 20.

"The youngest girl suffered a broken leg while her sister only had minor injuries," he said, adding that both the girls were Zalina's children.
