RAUB: A husband and wife were killed while their two children were seriously injured after the car they were in was hit by a four-wheel-drive vehicle that is believed to have run a red light near the Central Spine Road (CSR) traffic light junction at KM350 of Jalan Kuala Lumpur - Kota Bharu yesterday.
School security guard Muhamad Anasar Kamarozaman, 34, and his wife Zalina Ali, 40, died at the scene in the 10.20pm mishap while their two daughters were taken to Raub Hospital.
Raub police chief Superintendent Mohd Shahril Abdul Rahman said investigations revealed Anasar along with his family were exiting the Raub CSR junction to return to Dong.
"When the Proton Wira driver started moving after the traffic light turned green, the four-wheel drive also travelling towards Raub suddenly crashed into the right side of the car.
"Anasar and his wife were both pronounced dead at the scene while their two children and the other driver sustained serious injuries. The injured victims were taken to Raub Hospital," he said in a statement.
Shahril said investigations revealed the driver of the four-wheel drive is believed to have run a red light resulting in the collision.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death due to reckless or dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, Pahang Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said seven firemen from the Raub fire station were deployed to the scene.
He said the driver and front seat passenger of the car were pinned to their seats, and firemen used rescue tools to bring them out of the vehicle.
