Cops nab runaway lovers after high-speed chase

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested two suspects, including a woman, who attempted to evade arrest in Taman Impian Emas, Skudai, last Wednesday.

The pair, believed to be under the influence of drugs, were chased by six police patrol vehicles in a high-speed chase before being apprehended.

Johor Baru Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh, said the chase started in Taman Impian Emas, continued through several roads, and ended in Taman Impian Emas, where the suspects were arrested.

"Investigations revealed that the male suspect had evaded a police check while officers were conducting crime prevention duties in Taman Impian Emas, Skudai," he said.

The suspects were a 27-year-old local man and a 20-year-old local woman.

Initial urine tests showed that both tested positive for methamphetamine.

During the incident, the woman's child was also in the car.

Balveer Singh clarified that the case was not a child abduction as alleged on social media.

"It was not a kidnapping case. The child is the woman's. There were no injuries sustained in this incident," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in discharging their duties and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Earlier, a 17-second video showing six MPVs chasing a car went viral.

Balveer Singh said the police received a report from a member of the public about the incident at approximately 11.20pm last Wednesday.

He also advised the public against taking actions outside the law to obstruct public servants from performing their official duties.
