BINTULU: A 29-year-old man was arrested by police yesterday in connection with the murder of his adopted grandmother.

The unemployed man was apprehended about 24 hours after the 80-year-old victim was found dead at her house in Kampong Dato here.

Bintulu police chief Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali said the suspect was arrested at a hotel in Taman Sri Dagang at 12:30 pm.

"Interrogation of the suspect led the police to a goldsmith shop where he had sold a broken necklace believed to belong to the victim.

"The suspect is in custody, and the necklace has been seized to aid the investigation," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
