PETALING JAYA: Three men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 36-year-old local man, following a report lodged by a concerned neighbour on Sept 16.
Petaling Jaya Deputy Police Chief Superintendent M. Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly said the police received a report from the victim's neighbour at 1am. The neighbour expressed concern over the victim's wellbeing after overhearing a heated argument on Sept 15, at around 11pm.
The neighbour became alarmed when the victim was not seen leaving his apartment following the altercation.
Hussin said that police later visited an apartment in Persiaran Meranti, Bandar Sri Damansara, to conduct a preliminary investigation. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered the body of a local man with stab wounds, which are believed to be the cause of death.
"Acting on intelligence and surveillance, on Sept 21, at approximately 3am, a team from the Petaling Jaya Police Headquarters and the Selangor Police Headquarters successfully arrested three local men, aged between 50 and 61, at an apartment in Kuala Lumpur.
"All the arrested individuals have various prior criminal records, and with the arrest of these three suspects, police believe one of them is the perpetrator, thus solving the murder case," Hussin said in a statement.
He added that all the suspects are being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and they have been remanded for six days by the Petaling Jaya Magistrate's Court until Sept 26 to facilitate further investigation.
Initial findings suggest there was no relationship between the victim and the suspects. It is believed that the suspects broke into the victim's home, and a struggle ensued when the victim returned and confronted them.
Hussin also said that the investigation papers are being expedited and will be forwarded to the Selangor Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office for further action.
