ALOR STAR: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) raided the office of a construction and property development services company for using pirated software here yesterday (Monday).
Its state office director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin said the company was found using pirated software for architectural design and drafting services for construction projects.
"This action was based on complaints and investigations conducted since last month.
"The raid found that the business was using pirated software for drafting and designing architectural plans for construction projects," he said in a statement today.
Nizam said that further checks of the premises found four computers installed with seven units of pirated software.
He said the company faced a fine of not less than RM2,000 and not more than RM20,000 for each pirated copy, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both, upon conviction.
He added that the total value of the seized items was estimated at RM20,000.
Nizam also warned traders against using or displaying pirated software without the copyright owner's consent and asked the public to report any suspicious activities to the ministry.
