KUALA LUMPUR: The Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has raided a clothing store in Pasir Pekan, Wakaf Baru, for allegedly selling counterfeit branded clothing on social media.
Its director, Azman Ismail, said the raid was carried out by the authorities and representatives of copyright holders.
He said the operation uncovered the sale of counterfeit goods involving the unauthorised use of registered trademarks.
"A total of 131 jackets of various sizes, suspected to be bearing the trademarks of well-known brands, were seized, with the confiscated goods estimated to be worth RM4,585," he said in a statement.
The owner of the premises, in his 30s, is being investigated under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademarks Act 2019 for possessing and using registered trademarks for commercial purposes without authorisation.
Azman said, on questioning the owner, he admitted to selling suspected counterfeit branded clothing since February, actively using TikTok, including conducting live sales.
"We are warning other traders not to sell counterfeit goods as this violates the law.
"We will continue to monitor and take strict action against any parties found guilty, and failure to comply with the law could result in severe penalties, including imprisonment," he said.
