MACC officer charged with taking bribes allowed access to prosecution's witness list

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here today approved a request by a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officer and businessman to obtain the prosecution's witness list in their trial for bribery.

The lawyer representing both the officer, Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, and Mohd Rasyidi Mohd Said said that typically, the prosecution provides the list before the trial begins.

But this was not done in their case, said Azizul Shariman Mat Yusoff.

"The prosecution usually gives the list. We did not ask for the witness statements but only wanted to know the witnesses who would be testifying in the two-day trial next week.

"The judge has granted our clients' request. I was informed that the prosecution will hand over the list today or by tomorrow at the latest," Azizul said after today's proceedings.

Sessions Court judge Suzana Hussin set the trial for Aug 8 and 9.

The court was informed last month that the Attorney-General's Chambers had rejected a request by both defendants that it review the two charges of soliciting and accepting bribes totalling RM640,000.

The money was allegedly an inducement not to remand in custody the son of former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Rasyidi and Hussein were jointly charged on May 25, 2023 with committing the offence on March 5 and 6.

Hussein had also pleaded not guilty to another charge of soliciting a bribe of RM2 million.

The money was allegedly an inducement to reduce the charge and bail in a case involving businessman Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad.

The offence was allegedly committed at premises in Kampung Melayu Kepong, here, in February 2023.
