ALOR STAR: The body of a 34-year-old farmer, who was reported missing by his family, was found floating in Sungai Anak Bukit near Alor Madi here today.
Kota Setar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the police were alerted at 9.40am on the discovery.
She said initial investigations revealed that the victim had likely been dead for more than 24 hours.
"A check on the body found identification documents in the trousers. Based on these documents, the body is believed to be a local man who was reported missing by his family this morning," she said in a statement today.
Salawati said that according to the missing person report, the victim had not returned home since 6pm on Tuesday.
She added that the body had been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for post-mortem.
"At this point, police are classifying the case as sudden death," she added.
